17. Location. Rayleigh. Mar 3, 2009. #1. Hello. I have just bought a Ducato 2.8 JTD Maxi van on a 55 plate with 37,000 miles. It replaces a 2.8 JTD Maxi van on an 02 plate with 150,000 miles. The old van when first bought (50,000 miles) returned 31mpg on a mixture of long distance/ town UK/France driving, this was a mixture of half to full load.
The Ducato has earned a decent reliability record, helped in no small part by its rugged diesel engines. Check for damage to locks, tired rear suspension, slipping clutches and brakes and make sure that the load bay tie-downs aren't bent or broken. Check that the glow plugs work well by starting the van from cold and checking the lights go out
