I have used my Fiio E11 to drive my DT990 Pro 250-Ohm. So the E17 should provide some good audio quality for your headphone(s).but The E17 offers zero surround sound for gaming and movies, so if you your ok with stereo (2-channel) sound for gaming and movies, then get the E17.
As for sound, 770s are more neutral than the 990s. They have a pretty small soundstage. The 990s have a fun V shaped sound, not as neutral, but it makes for a pretty exciting listening experience, and their soundstage is the best of the 770/880/990 trio. My personal preference is the DT990. As for ohms.Hello! I recently got a pair of Beyerdynamics dt 990 pro 250 ohm and are looking to get an amp and dac. I have been overwhelmed of all the options available but can still not seem to find which one that is right for these headphones. A few of the amp/dacs i am considering: Fiio E10K Olympus 2. Schiit stack (Modi + Magni 3+/heresy) ifi zen dac v2.
I had the DT990 Pro 250. The treble was really too much, but changing the driver filter for some toilete paper (really) or a 2 or 3mm thick felt greatly reduced that. You can read more about it here. A tube amp (Little Dot mk II) also helped a lot. What the DT990 does well, it does VERY well. Pitty the hot treble, I ended up selling it.
